Mark Armenante
Chairman
Mark Armenante is Chairman of Veeva Systems.
Prior to founding Veeva Systems, Mark spent over 10 years with Siebel Systems. Mark was Siebel’s first Vice President of Sales and held several Group Vice President roles managing Alliances, Operations and Siebel’s OnDemand division. Prior to Siebel, he was President of PharmaSystems, Inc., an early innovator in pharmaceutical sales force management. PharmaSystems automated sales forces at Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz, Warner Lambert, Schering-Plough and other pharmaceutical manufacturers. Mark joined Oracle in 1987 to form the pharmaceutical vertical sales organization in addition to other pioneering vertical product lines. Prior to Oracle Corporation, Mark spent seven years with Information Resources, Inc., as Senior Vice President, Sales, which served the consumer products and pharmaceutical industries.
Mark holds an MBA in Finance from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University.
Gordon Ritter
Director
Gordon Ritter is a Founder and General Partner of Emergence. He has spent over 15 years building companies which pioneered new markets including embedded web-based interfaces, server appliances, “On Demand” services for the SMB market and web-native application development. He led Emergence Capital’s first investment in the On Demand leader, salesforce.com . Gordon was named to the Forbes’ Midas List of the top venture capital investors in 2007. He currently sits on the boards of Genius, Ketera, Lithium, PivotLink and SmartTurn.
Prior to founding Emergence, Gordon was co-Founder and CEO of Software As Service, a Web services platform company he created with Marc Benioff, the Chairman and CEO of salesforce.com. Software As Service is the origin of salesforce.com’s Force.com platform. Prior to forming Software As Service, he was Vice President of the $3 billion IBM Global Small Business division, created as a result of IBM’s acquisition of his company, Whistle Communications, in 1999. Gordon’s division was responsible for partnerships with dozens of technology-enabled service companies as part of IBM’s On Demand computing strategy. He led IBM’s launch partnership with salesforce.com. Prior to IBM, Gordon was co-Founder and President of Whistle, a pioneering Internet appliance and services platform for small and medium-sized businesses. Gordon has a B.A. in Economics from Princeton University.
Young Sohn
Director
Young Sohn is a twenty-five year veteran of the software industry and is a Director of Veeva Systems.
Young was the founder and CEO of Nomadic Systems which was acquired by Siebel Systems to form the basis of the Siebel Life Sciences Division. She ran that division as its General Manager until early 2001. Under her leadership, the Siebel Life Sciences Division became a clear market leader and a thought leader in the pharmaceutical CRM space. Prior to Nomadic Systems, Young held an executive management position at PharmaSystems. PharmaSystems was an early innovator in pharmaceutical sales force automation that provided solutions for Ciba- Geigy, Sandoz and Schering-Plough among other pharmaceutical manufacturers. Previously, Young spent six years at Oracle Corporation in the pharmaceutical vertical organization.
Young received a B.A. in Business Management from Cornell University.
Kevin Spain
Director
Kevin is a Principal and Kauffman Fellow at Emergence Capital Partners. His deep knowledge of the enterprise and consumer technology sectors comes from time spent at blue-chip software companies and from his experience as an entrepreneur.
Prior to joining Emergence, Kevin was a senior member of Microsoft’s Corporate Development group. In this role he shared responsibility for sourcing, structuring and negotiating Microsoft’s acquisitions, strategic investments and joint ventures. Under his leadership, Kevin’s team participated in over $500 million in transactions spanning all of Microsoft’s business groups. Prior to Microsoft, Kevin was with Electronic Arts where he was a member of the team that launched EA’s online gaming business. Today, Electronic Arts operates several of the most popular online gaming destinations in the world. Later, Kevin served in Electronic Arts’ Corporate Development group where he helped manage the company’s acquisition and strategic investment efforts.
Kevin earned a MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ron Codd
Director
Ron is an independent consultant and corporate director with over 30 years of experience working with high technology, high growth firms in financial and general management roles. From late 2007 to early 2008, he was the Interim CEO of UltraCell Corporation, a designer, manufacturer and marketer of micro fuel cells. Ron was also previously the CFO and SVP Finance and Administration for PeopleSoft, Inc. During his 7-year tenure at PeopleSoft, he managed PeopleSoft’s successful Initial Public Offering in 1992 and oversaw its growth in annualized revenues from $15 million to $1.5 billion. Prior to that, he held a series of senior management positions with MIPS Computer Systems, Wyse Technology and Tandem Computers.
Ron has a Masters in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a B.S. in Business from the University of California, Berkeley. He has earned the following credentials: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) and Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). He is a member of the adjunct faculty of Golden Gate University.
Peter Gassner
Founder, President & CEO
Peter is responsible for the overall direction and management of Veeva Systems. In 2010, Peter was named to the PharmaVOICE 100, which recognizes the 100 most influential people in the life sciences industry. Peter is a twenty year veteran of the software industry.
Prior to founding Veeva, Peter was Senior Vice President of Technology at salesforce.com where he had responsibility for building the salesforce.com platform including product, marketing and developer relations. During Peter’s tenure, salesforce.com completed its public offering and grew the technology into the most successful SaaS platform in the industry.
Before salesforce.com, Peter was with PeopleSoft for 9 years as both Chief Architect and General Manager of PeopleTools. Peter led a team of over 450 professionals who provided the development, strategy, marketing and customer support for PeopleSoft’s technology platform. PeopleTools was widely regarded in the industry as the best application platform of its day.
Peter began his career with IBM in relational database development and research at IBM Silicon Valley Lab and then at IBM Almaden Research Center where he had the privilege of working closely with some of the inventors of relational database technology.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Oregon State University.
